There's something to be said for Kitchen Table Wisdom - you know, like in the old days when people sat around the kitchen table after a meal and talked about life, the universe and the meaning of it all - as well as the gossip doing the rounds in town...

Well, that's what this place is - a place to share common wisdom, thoughts and feelings about things important and unimportant, that bring us joy, laughter and happiness and that trouble, sadden, confuse and anger us ...

What I write here is what's 'real' for me. It won't always be PC or 'nice'. We're missing out on true connection and chances to grow and change because there's too little authenticity, too little honesty, too much holding back what we really feel and mean.

Welcome to my world...

I used to have a copyright claim here, but I've removed it...

How Low Can You Go?

I'm asking for prayers and good vibes...
Son's father is fighting our proposed move to Australia in court... not only that, but he wants custody of him, claiming I am an unfit mother...
This from the man who has been kicked off five different domestic violence perpetrator programmes in five years... whose visitation access to our son is determined by how much progress he is making on said programmes...
And he's playing really, really dirty - I can't even read the court documents he filed in their entirety yet, they are so horrible...
I picked up the documents this evening - they were improperly served at the previous house we had lived in...
And leaving the house, the car in front of me had a bumper sticker in Yiddish, with English translation... it said "Have courage, be strong"... I hadn't even read the documents yet!!!
I  need to focus on filing a response to this crap - one of the hearings is on the 28th, I think, and I have 20 days to reply to the other motion he filed... and I have to file a request for the renewal of the Protection Order this week...
It's kinda hard to do the forgiveness thing when, just when I think I am there, more of this crap comes - but I guess that's the challenge...
And after tomorrow, I don't know where we'll be living.... the boy and I, two cats and some of our "stuff"... and our van with the window that was shot out September 2010 that's still covered in clear plastic sheeting and dragon-patterned duct tape!
The rent for the week-to-week motel we're staying at was due three days ago - the landlord is asking for it...
Son's dad owes me $1,500 and two clients owe me around $3,000; have been asking for them to cough up - no reply yet...
I guess I now understand something about what life was like for the people who went through the Great Depression and World War 2...
Though I still probably haven't got a clue what life is like for the millions in the third world, starving to death...
Well - I guess this all goes on tomorrow's agenda...
I have just enough gas left to get to my therapy appointment (lovely women who doesn't ask me to front up with the co-pays!); will use the hour with her to get my head around all of this...
PS:   As above, so below, as within, so without... the macro reflects the micro and vice versa...
It's 11.30pm Pacific Time here in Seattle, and I am watching the New York Police Department completely destroy the OccupyWallStreet camp... pepper spraying, hurting, arresting protestors and trashing absolutely everything...
It seems to me to be synchronistic that I got those horrible, hurting, trashing documents tonight and that we are facing homelessness tomorrow, in the same manner as OccupyWallStreet - which is standing up to governmental and corporate abuse - is being attacked/evicted by police...
As a Facebook friend said: "the empathic principal in action... seems to me that the line being drawn is spreading like wildfire... much violence is up, which is the sign of weakness and fear...sigh"...

Plan "A" Isn't Going To Plan & Plan "B" Is Nowhere To Be Seen!

I've noticed that a lot of people have been checking the post titled "Plan A"...

And I notice Plan A was written 9 months ago, today!!!

9 months' gestation and what do I have to show for the pregnancy?

Definitely not the "baby" Plan A was intended to give birth to!

What have I/we been doing?
  • Turned 53 and boy turned 8; girls turned 31 and 29 respectively
  • Moved house again TWICE with a third move coming up ASAP
First move (March) was necessary because things were not going well in the house-sharing situation, due to conflict and senior house-mate being diagnosed with terminal cancer and dying (written about here and here)!

Lucky enough to immediately score a house-sitting gig for four months...

Owners of first house came back for the summer, which made a second move necessary...

Second move (July) we were trial-running the idea of co-housing/intentional community...

Three adults, three boy children (aged 5, 7 and 8), three cats, three hens, one rooster and two frogs (now deceased!) all sharing a three bedroom house...

Interesting experience... can't give it a "quality" label - it just is...

Seeing an only child mix with two siblings who are very different in energy and temperament...

Experiencing two women, separated in age by a whole generation, sharing a kitchen and laundry and child care/supervision...

Watching house cat and interlopers dance/skirmish around territory issues (like the two women and the children)...

Watching the male adult act as go-between in the dynamic...

Finally having a discussion about where everyone's at, and acknowledging that one of the women needs her own space and family's privacy back...

So we need to find somewhere else to be while we figure out whether to stay here or go back to Australia...

Will be fourth move in a year - hence very little excitement and enthusiasm!
  • Won a 3-day, 2-night sail on a Tall Ship - the Adventuress - out of Friday Harbour in the San Juans - a late birthday gift for the boy, who wouldn't admit he was having fun until the second day, and when he's mad at me, still says it was a horrible experience ... I thought it was great!   Seven years in the US and we haven't been to the islands nor more than about 100 miles in any direction from Seattle...
  • Two days into the new school year, took boy out of school and we are now "unschooling"...
Four things happened in those two days that convinced me that what I had been contemplating for the past couple of years was the right thing to do...

Boy much happier, doesn't miss it, starting to get some initiative happening over what he wants to do, friends say they've never seen him so relaxed and outgoing...

I need to fine-tune how I do my day, so that I give him more time and attention and we do more things together...
  • Spent most of the past 9 months working on social justice/change issues... been quite successful, judging by some of the response:
  • Was offered a job as campaign manager for someone wanting to be elected to the local school board...
Thought it would be cool and fun and easy (using all my skills) and worthwhile...

Schoolhouse - OUR House:
Learning Together in Truth, Trust and Transparency

Three weeks later (this week) - fired myself...

Here's why:

"Hi M....

I've been sitting on this for a while and today is the day I had to make a choice...

I'm sorry, but I can't work on this campaign after all (and it's very hard to say that, given that I like you, I want S out of the District AND we really, really NEED the money, especially now)...

I haven't been able to do my best work for you, apart from coming up with your mission/value tagline and starting on your social media stuff...

None of this work should be a big deal for me, but it has been...

I have been trying to figure out why over the past week...

First I thought I was pissy because there were too many fingers in the pie and it's all very disorganised and its so hard to get to any outcomes

Then I thought it was because I was feeling like you couldn't let go and let me do my job and you were not listening to/accepting my expertise

Then I thought that me being a paid employee was getting in the way - I don't do well in hierarchies where my 3D/financial survival depends on me doing what I am told/delivering an agreed outcome...

But none of that is true, because I have delivered amazing work for clients/employers under all of these conditions...

Then I thought it was me being lazy and wanting money for nothing(!!!) and/or that I was too overwhelmed with my own stuff to have any energy left over for this project...

Today, I finally realised that I can't/won't do this work because it still perpetuates the current system operating in the world, and I am now so completely un-aligned with that, that it pains me to even try to work for/in this paradigm...

I have taken C out of school because I disagree what our education system does to our kids... and yet in helping you, I am helping to perpetuate that system...   You and the other Board members might make things better than they are now, but you will not fundamentally change how we treat children and how we prepare them for life...

Buckminster Fuller said you cant fix a system by changing it... that you have to create a system that runs alongside it that will gradually overtake/replace the obsolete system...

I need to be working to pull down the old and build something completely new, as the Wall Street Occupiers are doing - working in a completely different paradigm...

I am sorry for any inconvenience and disruption my decision causes, and if this leaves you feeling abandoned...

I will call you tomorrow morning (Friday) to give us both a chance to get to closure on this...

Thanks for giving me the chance to clarify even further where I need to be putting my energies...

  • Still doing the dance with boy's father over money (father not paying) and visitation (boy won't go) - seriously not fun

So - there you have it... an abbreviated recap of a rich, intense, full journey and not one step closer to being back in Australia...

Learning, growing, maybe becoming wiser...

LYRICS:

Daylight
See the dew on the sunflower
And a rose that is fading
Roses whither away
Like the sunflower
I yearn to turn my face to the dawn
I am waiting for the day . . .

Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan

Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

Every streetlamp
Seems to beat a fatalistic warning
Someone mutters
And the streetlamp gutters
And soon it will be morning

Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I musn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin

Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
The streetlamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning

Touch me
It's so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me
You'll understand what happiness is

Look
A new day has begun

What's next Universe, seeing I don't have a Plan B?

Prosperity, Happiness & Revolution?

It's a holiday here today (Presidents' Day), plus the start of a week-long, mid-winter break for school children...

(And maybe the start of a revolution?)

Am tired... almost finished moving out of the old house... stuck between messiness in two places now...

Leaving shortly to resume and, hopefully, complete the transition...

Will carry with me this chant, to up the energy...

I usually use a dance mix version to call in the energies before I speak at church/group services...

Enjoy Yeha Noha - wishes for prosperity and happiness...

2/3 Done...

Move yesterday went relatively well, considering my state of unpreparedness...

Thanks to wonderful friends Chris, Charra, Brant, Cecilia and Paul, 2/3 of the furniture and boxes are gone, with the rest being done in slow time this week and a final push next Sunday, though I've paid our share of the rent until the end of the month...

Spent last night happy in the house we are minding for the next few months...

Though it will take a bit of getting used to the multiple clocks chiming cheerily on the 1/4 hour, the 1/2 hour, the 3/4 hour and the full hour!!!

Woke up today, very tired and quite sore... I feel old!

Will bring the cats and more of the food over this evening...

Lots of reflection happening in the process, and lots to write about...

But that's going to have to wait for a day or so, until I move my computer over...

Since we're no longer 'living' at the old address, the housemates have turned the heater way down low, down to 55F in the daytime, and my fingers are too cold to type much...

The lovely owner at the house we are minding, has the thermostat set at 72F for the daytime...

I'll be paying for the oil and power we use, but it's so nice not to have to argue about what's a reasonable temperature for comfortable Seattle winter living...

And one of the former housemates has just come through the family room (at the old house) to ask if I intend to use the internet here for much longer, implying I shouldn't because I'm no longer paying for it... I said no, I've  organised internet service at the new house starting tomorrow... I'll offer $5 for my share of the internet over 7 days, if they like!...

This morning, I've taken care of about half of the administration/personal business stuff related to moving house...

I try not to think about all the hassle and the circumstances that have surrounded all these moves in the US...

Otherwise, I just get plain pissed off... and that doesn't get me and Connor anywhere...

Holding Pattern...

Well - snow this morning when we woke up, so we had a quiet day at home, with the fire going to add to the sense of being snug and calm...

and at the same time, there's lots going on in the big wide world to blog about...

And lots going on in my own little universe also...

Insights coming fast and furious about what was really going on in that row my housemates and I had a couple of weeks ago (more on that another day)...

Insights about balance in my own life and in the world at large (more on that too, another day)...

And lots of time spent on making a list of what has to be done to make leaving the US and going back to Australia real...

Have started on some of the paperwork - have completed the Notice of Intention to Relocate which I have to file with the court, an amended Parenting Plan and the paperwork required to get my legal separation converted to a divorce... Still have to find out how much that costs to file (and then come up with the moolah!)...

Still working on an amendment to the Child Support Order...

Really need a lawyer to look over all this before I submit it - will see if I can get that done tomorrow...

And then have to hang fire on practical matters a bit until I know if we can actually leave this country...

Which makes me feel a bit like I'm stuck in a holding pattern, flapping my wings like crazy and using lots of energy, but still hovering in one spot...

But really, there's lots to do in the meantime...

Talk to the Australian authorities re residency and the Protection Order...

Do the paperwork to get our passports renewed (and find the greenbacks for that!)...

Start to pack - we have to move out of here anyway, so might as well begin on the artwork, books, knick-knacks, etc...

I do now have another option to add to Plan B... if we can't go, and we don't get transitional housing, a friend has said we can "house-sit" her father's house until June - so that's a relief...

Just not sure whether to move out now or wait until I find out what we're doing - staying here or going back to Australia...

Would be a bummer to have to move twice, but the tension in this house is really palpable, and it would be nice to escape from that...

Thinking, thinking, thinking...
